I've started thinking, that maybe I'm in the wrong place to be doing what I'm doing, with regards to research. HCI seems to a misunderstood field of research, and I think you could even say the same about some aspects of Software engineering research. When I tell other grads about what I'm working on or what I want to work on, I've been met with a lot of confusion. On the surface, what I'm working on may seem like I'm a confused psych major, but researching human impact on and about computer is valid. And perhaps it is because I'm surrounded by pure theoretical people that they don't understand or appreciate what I do. I feel my experience in this way would have been very different if I went to the school of information at the U of M.
For the record, I really do love what I do and what I get to research. It's not just "making things usable" its not just pixel pushing... There are many layers and aspects to consider. And yes, its not as concreat or mathematical as other areas of researcher, but that doesn't mean its not important.
